Despite its millenarian use by Berber women in Morocco, it was in the 1990s that Morocco's interest in cooperating with European entities for the development of the production and marketing of Argan Oil for the world was founded. This union emerged as a way of encouraging the organization of Berber women in cooperatives and the protection of the Argan forests, improving the extraction processes and adapting them to the most demanding European quality standards.
Argan Oil ZAD in Morocco thus took responsibility for numerous women's cooperatives and established its headquarters in Agadir, which is in the center of the Arganerie Biosphere Reserve (RBA) Protected by Unesco.
Currently we work with 1120 women organized in 25 Cooperatives, which are distributed in the 6 provinces of the Arganerie: Agadir Ida Outonan, Tiznit, Taroudant, Chtouka Ait Baha and essaouira (show Arganerie map). But other cooperatives are in the process of joining.
We also have the support of key partners to help us fulfill our mission: Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, Mohammed VI Foundation for Argan Research and Protection, Department for Cooperative Development (ODCO), United Nations Organization (UNIDO) And the Moroccan Center for Export Promotion (CMPE).
Because we have achieved a great commercial growth, with our products present in 4 continents, we have also expanded our network and activity, with the creation of YAZ Social Innovation (Spain), Argan Oil ZAD USA, and ZAD Inc. in Lisbon ( Portugal)
